Going Green

  • Since partnering with the MU Sustainability Office, Sustain Mizzou and other campus departments and organizations, we have employed several tactics to reduce our carbon footprint. As the Heart of Mizzou, it is our responsibility to save on energy, waste and resources. From electricity to bathroom supplies, we are working on making the Missouri Student Unions greener for the future.   Ways we are green:
    • Our trash compactors are solar powered to save money, reduce litter, conserve energy, eliminate overflows, decrease labor.
    • As regular bulbs burn, we replace them with LED bulbs to save on waste, energy and labor.
    • Our censored sinks, toilets and urinals keep water usage to a minimum.
    • The Metasys system automatically turns the lights off in common areas when we're closed.
    • The Metasys system control air handles efficiently from a centralized location. It even mixes outside air when the temperature is just right.
    • Common area lighting is automatically adjusted with sensors that monitor the outdoor sunlight.
    • We repurpose the wood and building materials from the construction sites around campus whenever we can.
    • Our wet mops, cleaning rags, hand soap, paper towels and toilet paper are all Green Certified.
    • We will be investing in Orbio, which turns water into a sanitizer and disinfectant. This is a sustainable system that will save us at least $5,000 on chemicals.
